Baby-Led Newborn sessions done in the comfort of your home: documenting the moments of you & your baby in the place where your family’s memories are made

About LifeStyle Newborn Sessions

  • Baby-Led

My philosophy is that your baby is perfect just the way they are. Baby’s comfort and safety is also extremely important. This means that your newborn gets to dictate how they are most comfortable for their photos: do they prefer a swaddle, being held, laying on their belly, laying on their back? Using baby’s cues, we can find the positions they love most so that we can capture beautiful photos and detail shots without causing them any discomfort.

  • Lifestyle Focused

The benefit of a lifestyle session is the pace and vibe of the session. Pictures can happen in various rooms (baby’s nursery, family room, kitchen, the front porch, etc) and it’s easy to include a family pet or other siblings as everyone is in one place. If needed, family members can take quiet breaks to reset, engage in a favorite activity together and if you want to document your nursing journey, it’s simple to feed baby during the session using a rocker or comfy nook in the house.

FAQs

When should I book my newborn photos?

When scheduling your newborn photos we start with your due date and will schedule approx two weeks out from that. When baby arrives, let me know and we can adjust the date as needed. The goal is to have your session when you have recovered to a place where you feel somewhat comfortable physically, baby still sleeps a lot and there might be a tad bit more predictability to their schedule. If for some reason your baby is older then two weeks, it’s fine!! Newborn photos still work just fine for babies within a 4-6 week old window as well!

How should we prepare siblings for photos?

This depends. If you have older children (think 8 or 9 years old plus ) then it’s very easy to just verbally prepare them for photos. Pick out outfits together, talk about why you’re getting photos done and the role they will play. For younger siblings (toddlers or pre-k age) bringing a newborn home is an adjustment for everyone. Siblings that are closer in age to the baby can sometimes have a harder time sharing mom or the attention. Giving them jobs, lots of praise and cuddles and helping them to be a part of the process as the ‘big helper’ along the way can really help them feel prepared and excited.

What should we wear?

Comfort and simplicity is my general rule of thumb. Pick out your outfit first (mom) and then work everyone else around that. Baby can be naked, diaper only, a sweet outfit, simple onsie or any combination of those options.

How long do sessions typically last?

Babies require flexibility. They can be very unpredictable and that’s okay! With that in mind, I usually tell family’s that a session can last anywhere from 60-90 minutes. The goal is for things to feel relaxed and if baby is having trouble settling or you need a moment to yourself it’s perfectly fine. These sessions are built with that in mind so that no one feels a pressure for things to be ‘perfect’.

How should I prepare my home for my newborn session?

Minimally. The best thing you can do is decide which rooms you’d like to use for your session and just focus on decluttering those areas. Having a newborn to care for is a full-time job in itself, so there is no need to stress about making your home look perfect. Your home is lived in and should reflect that. If you have somewhere you can stash the clutter (a closet, under a bed, behind a couch) do that and then just focus on enjoying your session and time with your family. If anything else needs to be moved or adjusted I can easily take care of it when I arrive!

Does lighting matter?

Nope! I bring my lighting with me so if your house tends to be dark or get very diffused, indirect light throughout the day, it’s fine. I can create natural looking light in any environnment.
